From October 27 to November 9, choreographer Alina Arshi and her collaborator Marie Jeger will be in residence at Villa Nappi to develop a new artistic project.
The residency is part of Minor Constellation, curated by Ilaria Mancia, and is included in Inteatro’s 2026 Residency Project within the framework of Centro di Residenze R.A.M. – Residenze Artistiche Marchigiane.
For my residency at Villa Nappi this autumn, I will be laying out the first steps of my research around the themes of Fear & cowardice. The starting points are personal observations: a dangerous tendency towards “anticipatory obedience” in relation to authority, the realisation that I am not able to vote in any country, and a general avoidance of conflict that might characterise not only me, but many of us today.
During my time in Polverigi, I would like to map out the larger thematic framework of the research as well as begin the first studio explorations of its body and sound composition.
During the residency, my collaborator Marie Jeger, a dancer and musician, and I will begin exploring the research through the tools of dance, lyrics, and instrumental composition, laying the groundwork for a stage piece composed primarily of a lengthy, embodied medley of songs to be sung by three performers.
Alina Arshi is a dancer and choreographer based in Lausanne (CH). Working with the contradictory status of the body as simultaneously concrete and abstract, she develops choreographic works through the collision of personal and inherited materials, theoretical questions, music, language and lived experience. Alina was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (IN), and grew up between there and different cities in the Middle East.
Marie Jeger’s artistic practice draws from contemporary dance, performance and music. Creating in various formats with body, voice and viola, her choreographic research emerges from a game with the body’s form, challenging its habitual patterns in order to open the senses and expand its capacities to relate with. Often including voice or whistle as a musical device, the body is both musical and dancing actor.
