Inteatro Festival, annual event dedicated since its beginnings to contemporary creation in the fields of theatre and dance, presents Italian and international artists able to tell stories about the present times in an original and personal way, looking for a more direct and engaging relation with the spectator.
This year’s festival, in particular, is meant as a generator of new perspectives and forms of relation, dedicated to actuality, empathy, responsibility and cultural diversity.
2017 edition strengthens, even more than in its past editions, networks and connections benefiting from various collaborations with Entities, Institutions, Italian Theatres and International Bodies.
Inteatro Festival 2017 takes place from June 24 to July 2 in Polverigi and Ancona. The program foresees 8 Italian premieres, 2 productions and more than 100 artists that will be present at the Festival, between performances, workshops, installations and exhibitions.
The section in Ancona will host two very diverse proposals, but both under the sign of opening the borders, of hospitality and curiosity towards other cultures. At Teatro delle Muse, on June 24th, for the festival opening, contemporary India will be on stage with “Bhinna Vnyasa” a show of the dance company Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts. The piece, featuring a group of very talented artists, leads the spectator towards an intensive and captivating experience through a mapping of dreams, hopes, migrations and desires.
The same day, at Teatro delle Muse a master-class held by the company as well as its interactive installation “Nagarika” will be presented. The installation will give the spectators the opportunity of approaching the complex and fascinating reality of a culture that is strictly connected to tradition but at the same time opened to contemporary complexity.
On June 27th, at Mercato del Piano, the final result of “Actions”, entirely dedicated to the topic of migration, will be presented. The project, directed by Swiss-Dutch artist Yan Duyvendak, proposes a stage device gathering citizens, old and new migrants, associations dealing with hospitality, representatives of the Institutions, with the aim of leaving the rhetoric of the good intentions behind and to answer with effective and direct actions able to positively involve each single individual. “Actions” is a Marche Teatro – Inteatro Festival Production and has won the MigrArti 2017 call, promoted by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (MIBACT).
The section in Polverigi opens on June 28th at Cinema Italia, with the world premiere of “Nessuna conversazione degna di rilievo” by Catalan director Roger Bernat (till July 2nd).
The piece, produced in its Italian version by Marche Teatro, in co-production with Teatro dell’Arte in Milan, faces up to the delicate topic of the fundamentalist derives of some young people that are grown in an European cultural environment. Roger Bernat, pioneer of the “participative theatre”, proposes a stage device where the spectator will be able to tread the history of the transformation of honest European citizens into fierce kamikaze through the texts of the interceptions and of the procedural acts collected by the Spanish Authorities in the frame of the first process started in Ceuta against European citizens accused of terrorism.
On June 29th at Teatro della Luna in Polverigi (till June 30th) the debut, as an Italian premiere, of Atlas revisited, by New York artists Karthik Pandian and Andros Zins-Browne, a playful and surprising choreography on the research of a possible representation of the concept of freedom, meant in its wider meanings.
On the same June 29th, at the Park of Villa Nappi in Polverigi, Collettivo Cinetico, the most acclaimed among the young Italian dance companies, presents its site specific project appositely created for the Festival.
“Camminare in uno spazio tra linee”. The work of the Company, directed by the choreographer and dancer Francesca Penni, combines dance and contemporary circus with an original and ironic language.
On June 30th one more day dedicated to dance, with three premieres: in Sala Sommier in Villa Nappi “Bailarina” by Spanish Sonia Gómez, a dance of the research of proximity and on the profession od dancer; in the park, “Creature” by Swiss-Hungarian József Trefeli company, in which traditional dances are de-composed and reinvented; at Teatro della Luna, Scarabeo_Angles and the Void last creation by extraordinary dancer and choreographer Andrea Costanzo Martini, claimed at the last edition of Tuttoin1giorno dance Festival at Teatro delle Muse.
On Saturday July 1st, “Mash”, new creation by young and talented Italian dancer and choreographer Annamaria Ajmone will be presented at Teatro della Luna.
This year’s festival will be concluded by the return to Polverigi of Oscar Gómez Mata, with the Italian premiere, in the Park of Villa Nappi, of the mysterious and extravagant “Cromlech (Psicodramma 4)”, construction of a collective artwork, created by the spectators, in the frame of the new edition of PAC Paesaggio, Ambiente, Creatività (Landscape, Environment, Creativity).

ISA Inteatro Summer Academy May 13th to July 12nd 2017 Villa Nappi- Polverigi
ISA Inteatro Summer Academy, new edition of the professional training Academy in the fields of performing arts. The Academy, running from May 13th to July 12th, is addressed to 10 young Italian artists, selected upon a national call. ISA, an intensive and residential project, has won the prestigious competition launched by SIAE
S’Illumina-Copia privata per i giovani per la cultura. Many of the artists that are present at the festival take also part to ISA in the role of mentors: Oscar Gómez Mata, Sonia Gómez, Francesca Pennini, choreographer of Collettivo Cinetico company, Jayachandran Palazhy choreographer of Attakkalari company. The other invited artists having the role of mentors are: Geraldine Pilgrim, British artist, also teaching at the renowned Central Saint Martins in London; Tanya Beyeler and Pablo Gisbert from acclaimed Catalan company El Conde de Torrefiel, presented in the frame of Inteatro Festival 2016; choreographer Luca Silvestrini, from Jesi, artistic director of London based Protein company and winner of numerous prizes, among the others: the National Dance Awards as best British company; Gustavo Frigerio, actor, performer, theatre and opera director, also teaching Des Teintureries theatre school in Lausanne.
IETM CAMPUS 2017 June 5th to 11th, Villa Nappi- Polverigi
2017 edition of the ietmCampus is taking place in Polverigi, where the network was created in 1981 by a group of European cultural organizers and promoters, meeting in Villa Nappi in the frame of the Festival.
IETM – International network for contemporary performing arts – is a network of over 500 performing arts organisations and individual members working in the contemporary performing arts worldwide: theatre, dance, circus, interdisciplinary live art forms, new media. Members include festivals, companies, producers, theatres, research and resource centers, universities and institutional bodies. The Campus, dedicated to the internationalization of careers in the field of contemporary live arts, will involve a group of 25 cultural professionals from all over the world and a group of expert tutors.

Moreover, Inteatro Festival has received, for 2017 and 2018, the prestigious recognition EFFE LABEL – Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe, as a Festival of particular European relevancy for its innovation. EFFE is the international platform of the Festivals promoted by EFA – European Festivals Association, promoting and connecting European cultural festivals from the Countries participating to the Creative Europe Programme of the European Commission.

Inteatro is an international festival of contemporary performing arts taking place each Summer in Polverigi (Italy) from 1977. Its vocation for research and for new artistic languages is developed combining a strong relation to the local territory to an internationally oriented wider perspective, with the aim of developing mid and long terms artistic collaborations under the form of residencies, co-productions, training opportunities and other according to specific artistic needs.
Inteatro Festival’s aim is to develop and promote at a European level new and unexpected approaches in all fields related to contemporary live arts. The festival’s program is built on a series of mid and long terms exchanges with local and international artists, developed over the years under the forms of research and creative residencies, professional training projects, productions and/or co-productions and other forms of collaboration that are established according to the artists’ specific needs.
Headquarter of Inteatro is Villa Nappi in Polverigi, an old villa in the middle of a secular park, offering eleven rooms (that are available all year long) for hosting artists as well as equipped rehearsing spaces where to develop and research in ideal working conditions.
Artistic fields investigated by Inteatro are the ones related to contemporary live arts, with a particular interest to original formats proposing a critical approach on current reality, generating new perceptions, responding to actuality with dynamism, reflecting on emerging human territories, involving a heterogeneous audience, proposing works that spot a question mark. Involvement of the community and development of the audiences are priorities of Inteatro Festival, that considers participation as the possibility of forming new communities by giving birth to dynamic artistic projects that interact with the local and global territory and creatively relate to the structure of society.
