Helmi. Around the bends

helmiHelmi is a Finnish word and name which stands for “pearl”: it has a connotation of something or someone which is old and unique. Helmi is an old star, a beautiful woman artist who was big at the beginning of the century and whose body used to impress the audience for its contortions and elasticity…

A me si.
Lo so.  E’ tempo di andare avanti. Racconta la tua storia, fa bene.
Grazie per essere venuti!”

The new stage work by Finnish performer Henna Kaikula, contortionist and nuveaux cirque expert who took part in IFA – InteatroFestival Academy 2007, starts from this character and from some considerations on artists body limits, ageing, time passing by, physical strength and capacities fading away…  After one year, back to Villa Nappi, using her wonderful and impressive abilities in changing her body, escaping the weight of gravity and the rigidity of flesh, Henna reflects on time and on its consequences for a body work, bringing on stage her worries in a sincere and brave sort of stage confession.

The show is co-produced by Inteatro and is a project developed with the Australian musicians Guy Dowsett and Jacob Cartwright, the Finnish stage designer Jegi Pekkala.

Debut: 6/7 november 2008, Teatro della Luna – Polverigi (An).

“That’s it. All I can do. Yes, it’s a bit of a scary thought if I start thinking.
This show, did you like it. I hope it gives you something. Gives me. I live when I make memories. I will miss it. I will miss you. The attention, light, claps, heartbeat. The fear that they’ll all stop and the relief when they continue.
I know. Time to move on.
Tell your story, it does good.
Thank you for coming!”
